To detect diseases of the heart.

EKGs:
An electrical tracing of heart activity to detect and diagnose various heart conditions. This is performed routinely in our office at the time of the visit if a heart condition is suspected.

Echo Cardiogram:
An ultrasound examination of the heart to look at the chambers, valves, and overall function of the heart. This includes the pumping action of the heart. Doppler is used to check the flow of blood through the various chambers of the heart.

Stress testing:
Exercise stress testing involves walking on a motorized treadmill with a continuous electrocardiogram monitoring. This testing is performed to detect coronary heart disease, functional evaluation of a person, and also to make a recommendation prior to undertaking a vigorous exercise program.

Stress echocardiograms:
This test is a combination of an exercise stress test and an echocardiogram which increases the sensitivity of the test results in suspected coronary heart disease. The test involves an exercise stress test along with an echocardiogram performed prior to the stress test and immediately after the stress test to detect any changes in muscle contraction of the heart. If one cannot walk on a treadmill, the heart rate can also be increased by the use of an intravenous medication with an echocardiogram being performed before, during, and after the intravenous medication is given.

Holter Monitoring:
This is 24-hour monitoring of the electrical activity of the heart to detect any irregularities of the heart rhythm and also to check for any silent ischemia (poor oxygen supply to the heart muscle). The test involves attaching a small monitor with wire leads to the chest wall. This is then worn by the patient for 24-hours while the patient continues routine activities. After 24-hours, the monitor is hooked to a special computer where all the information is analyzed and various abnormalities can be noticed depending upon the number of events and the time the event happened.

Pulmonary Services:
These services are provided to better manage patients with lung diseases. The pulmonary function test helps detect the extent of emphysema, asthma and other lung diseases. We also provide testing with the Pulse-Oximeter to detect the oxygen levels in the body.
